Zoom sur les aliments antioxydants - Novëm

Focus on antioxidant foods

There is a lot of talk about antioxidants in cosmetics, such as in our natural nut skincare products. Our face mask contains walnut oil, an ultra-nourishing oil naturally filled with vitamin E, one of the most powerful natural antioxidants found in cosmetics.

However today, we would like to talk to you about nutrition because you know that beauty also comes from the inside and therefore from what we eat.

What are antioxidants?

The term “antioxidants” includes certain vitamins, trace elements and certain micronutrients which are naturally present in our diet and which have the common effect of helping to protect the body's cells from the effect of free radicals.

Free radicals = molecules produced naturally in our cells during the normal functioning of the body

You should know that these antioxidants decrease with age, so we have to help our body!

We achieve this thanks to:

  • A balanced diet
  • Food supplements (if needed)

Foods richest in antioxidants and their health benefits:

  • Sulfur compounds of alliums : leek, onion, garlic
  • Anthocyanins : eggplant, grape, berries
  • Beta-carotene : pumpkin, mango, apricot, carrot, spinach, parsley
  • Catechins : red wine, tea
  • Copper : seafood, lean meat, nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, etc.), legumes
  • Cryptoxanthins : red pepper, pumpkin, mango
  • Flavonoids : tea, green tea, red wine, citrus, onion, apple
  • Indoles : crucifers, including broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower
  • Lignans : sesame seed, bran, whole grains, vegetables
  • Lutein : corn, green leafy vegetables (spinach, arugula, watercress, etc.)
  • Lycopene : tomato, pink grapefruit, watermelon
  • Manganese : seafood, lean meat, milk, nuts
  • Polyphenols : thyme, oregano
  • Selenium : seafood, organ meats, lean meat, whole grains
  • Vitamin C : orange, berries, kiwi, mango, broccoli, spinach, bell pepper, chilli
  • Vitamin E : vegetable oils, nuts, avocado, oilseeds, whole grains
  • Zinc : seafood, lean meat, milk, nuts
  • Zoochemicals : red meat, offal, fish
