Frequently Asked Questions

1. How often should sensitive skin be exfoliated?
Once a week, no more. That is the most important rule for this skin type. Exfoliation removes dead cells, but it also removes part of the intercellular lipid cement. On skin whose barrier is already depleted, too frequent exfoliation sustains exactly the vicious cycle you are trying to break: the more you strip the skin, the more it reacts, and the more you feel it needs to be stripped. During periods of inflammatory flare-ups or high reactivity, stop completely. Resume when the skin is calm.
2. Isn't a walnut shell scrub too harsh?
It all depends on two things: the grain size and the pressure you apply. The shell powders used here are finely ground and suspended in an oily base that makes them glide instead of scrape. The texture, rich in walnut and jojoba oil, cushions the contact. The real risk factor is the technique. Do not press. Roll with your fingertips, using very light circular motions, for fifteen to twenty seconds. A scrub that makes the skin red has been used incorrectly, regardless of the product.
3. Scrub or mask? How should I use it?
Both, and that is its benefit. As a scrub — apply to clean, damp skin, massage very lightly in circles for fifteen to twenty seconds, then rinse with lukewarm water. As a mask — apply a thick layer to clean skin, leave on for five to ten minutes without massaging, then rinse. This is the preferred method if your skin feels tight: you benefit from the nourishing oils without the mechanical action. Several of our customers with dry skin systematically do both: a brief massage, followed by letting it sit.
4. Is it suitable for rosacea or couperose?
With caution, and never during a flare-up. Mechanical exfoliation is the most delicate step for skin prone to rosacea — dermatologists often advise against it, rightly so, because most scrubs on the market are too abrasive. This mask has been formulated for this use, and our affected customers tolerate it well, but if your skin is in an inflammatory phase, refrain: prefer the mask application, without massage. And if you are being treated for rosacea, ask your dermatologist's advice before introducing exfoliation, even a gentle one. This is a cosmetic product; it does not treat rosacea.
5. At what point in the routine?
In the evening, after makeup removal and before skincare. Exfoliated skin absorbs what follows better: follow up immediately with your oil or cream, never with a strong active ingredient on the same evening. If you use a plant-based retinol serum, move it to the next day.
6. How long does the jar last? Is there a refill available?
About two months, using it once a week. The jar is refillable: when it runs out, you only buy the contents.
7. Is it suitable for blemish-prone skin? On isolated blemishes, yes—exfoliation helps unclog pores and jojoba regulates sebum production without clogging. On active inflammatory acne, however, do not scrub: mechanical massage on open lesions worsens inflammation and encourages spreading. Use it only as a mask, or wait, and speak to a dermatologist.
